Today, we talk
of the church sizes, incomes, expansion, building, worshippers, auditorium,
etc

False sense of
achievements.

However, there
is a common problem across board - Pastors, leaders, worshippers,
In 2009, the BANNER group did a survey considering major factors pastors
face in their ministries: Is it the rise
in Islam? Poverty? Secularism?
90% of pastors
interviewed ascertained lack of spiritual growth in the church. A lot of
worshippers are spiritual babies.
Romans
12:1-2 – Transformation by renewal of mind. Heb 5:12-15 talked of babies not
teachers. Ephesians 4:14 - Children
being tossed to and fro by every word of doctrine.
Evidence: this is the spirit
behind

Defining growth - to develop, mature, a change, improve, increase Christ
is not divided in the Corinthian church.

growth should radiate/influence others.
ASSUMPTIONS
A fully loaded petrol tanker should petrol in the 1st
instance, to get to its destination.

Growth is
automatic. You have to do something. As little born babies desire.

Growth is
instant: line upon line, precept upon precept ; process, Ps 138:8
·
Church
attendance: small churches advantages.
·
Growth on your
own alone: interaction: iron sharpens
iron….. Relates, shares, not a solitary life.

By how much you
know: changes of character, attitude, behaviour, by their fruit we shall know

Men shall call you….

Growth is
evident in church — where nobody sees us.

Attainable by
selected few: all must grow, ushers, choir, we are ambassador, all –round
family affairs.

Grow up – to be like God Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1, John 13:15 Don’t look down on
anybody - Evangelism women, children.

Grow down- established, deep rooted Eph. 3:17, Col. 2:7 (Palm tree analogy) Pro.
24:10. Storms will come.

Grow in- Character development not Charisma. Acidic tongue, carnality,
Pro.10:12-14 inward growth,

Outward growth—Impact other people, Evangelism Matt. 18:11 friends, family
·
Out-grow- Back biting, talk about me, envy, names
·
Onward growth- All round growth.
