DAVID: A MAN OF GODLY VIRTUES
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 16:14-19
David simply
means “beloved” in Hebrew language. He is the youngest of the Sons of Jesse the
Bethlehemite (of Judah)- the birth place of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Virtues
simply mean moral excellence. It is a trait or quality deemed to be morally
good. Furthermore, Virtues are characteristics valued as promoting collective
and individual greatness. Kindly note that the opposite of virtue is vice.
VIRTUES ASCRIBED TO DAVID BY SAUL’S
SERVANT
Ø A Son of Jesse the Bethlehemite.
It is important to always recall the family that we come from. Ask
yourself questions about good behavioural lessons from your parents. Every
family has name and identity as related to. Also, recall that we are often
enjoined to remember the child of whom we are.
Ø He is Skillful in playing Harp
David is known to play musical instruments at a very young age. Even when
he is with the sheep as shepherd boy he took out time to be on musical
instrument.. As young people we are expected to be creative and be on the
lookout for what we can do with our hands. This list on creativity is
inexhaustive, you can only identify your area of interest and develop it.
Ø A mighty man of Valour
Another word for “valour” is valiant. It simply means boldly courageous; brave. You could imagine David killing Bear and Lion, this
is a great feast. There will always be challenges, issues but God expect us to
be strong and rugged. Recall Exo. 14:12-15… God said stop crying but go forward
even when He knew they were before the Red Sea
Ø A Man of War
The generation of
David was time of war and counter wars. Season of the sword and he was good at
it. You can be a special breed in Sciences, ICT, Administration, Accounting,
Law, Leadership, Finance, Business, etc. You can identify your area of interest
and specialization.
Ø Prudent in Speech
David was quite
outspoken and fluent in speech. The act of public speaking is very important in
today’s world. It is quite essential for you to deliberately take away shyness
and mature in your interaction with individuals and group of people.
Ø A Handsome Man
As we take care
of our spirit man we also need to take good care of our body and look. It could
be unfortunate to have body or mouth odour but there are remedies to all that.
Just take good care of your body.
Ø The Lord is with him
I love this
aspect of these virtues of David. He is a lover of God. He depicts godliness
and a huge relationship with God. Kindly note that Christ wants to have a
serious relationship with you, please open up.
