Sunday Service. 11/10/15
Theme for the
month: Put Off and Put On.
Text: Romans 13:14;
Eph 4:22-32; Col 3:8-14; Gal 5:19-23.
Topic: Put On Jesus
Christ.
Text: Romans 13:11-14
The Bible is
replete with analogies and parables that help to explain spiritual truths by
using everyday objects and relationships.
For example in
Matthew 4:19 when Jesus called Peter and Andrew to be his disciples
and told them that he would make them fishers-of-men.
Some examples of
parables are: the parable of the unjust judge (Luke 18:1-8), the ten virgins
(Matt 25:1-13), the mustard seed (Matt 13:31-32; Luke 13:18-19)
To 'put on' is
clothing imagery, to wear like cloaks or clothes.
The clothes we wear
tells others about who we are: our beliefs, socio economic status and sometimes
our character. The value of clothing worn and the messages it sends were even
more important in ancient times.
To Put on Christ
expresses:
1.
Oneness with Christ
through Salvation - Gal 3:26-28, John 1:12
2.
Transformation
character after salvation - Rom 13:13-14; Col 3:12.
3.
Transformation into
immortality - 1 Cor 15:53; 2 Cor 5:2-4.
Romans 13:11-14 also
reminds us:
1.
To live life with
the knowledge that Christ's coming is nearer.
2.
Not to make
provision for the flesh.
3.
To awaken to our
responsibility and not waste the opportunity available.
