    THEME: JESUS I KNOW, PAUL I KNOW; WHO ARE YOU?TEXT: ACTS 19: 15TOPIC: A CALL TO SELF-EXAMINATION: WHO ARE YOU?TEXT: ACTS 19: 13- 19, MATT 5

    INTRODUCTION

The question ‘Who are you?’ is a call to self-examination. Our answer to this question needs to be validated by facts.Paul, who was acknowledged by the demon, calls us in 2 Cor 13:5 to examine ourselves if our answer to the question is that we are citizens of heaven.Jesus states the facts to validate our claim in Matt 5, and this morning, we shall1.    Examine Jesus’ teaching on who we are supposed to be
    2.  Examine to know if our hearts are right towards God
    3.  Explain the necessity of self-examination.
     1.  Jesus Teaching On Who We Are Supposed To Be
In Matt 5, He starts with ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’. To be a heavenly citizen starts with a sense of inadequacy, self-despising, spiritual bankruptcy and nothingness..This brokenness will cause mourning that will produce meekness, then a thirst and hunger for righteousness. Jesus says that they shall be filled with the nature of God which is purity of heart and holiness- men will revile and persecute us because our lives are totally different.2. Search To Know If Your Heart Is Right, 2 Cor 5: 17
The friends you keep, the books you read, the manner in which you speak, what you spend on, the songs you listen to, the books you read, the clothes you wear.Satan loves public nakedness. Absence of proper clothing excites him: Acts 19: 16.3. The Necessity Of Self Examination
     a.   Aids Honesty: A heart search inquiry aids Christian honesty and many good results would follow if examination of one’s self is practiced often. No man has reached a point at which he is beyond the need for further self-search. The heart search inquiry aids honesty.
    b.  Aids Usefulness: We are called to be salt and light to the world, but our usefulness in affecting the world positively for Christ is negatively affected by trading in who we are called to be in Christ for with we desire to have or be in the world.
    i.             Jesus warns us about the foolishness of sacrificing who we are; John 16: 25; Luke 12: 20- 21
ii.           Jesus shows us what to pursue and all these things shall be added unto us; Matt 6: 33.
CONCLUSIONWe should be ready to make the necessary changes in order to defeat worldliness, satan and self; Acts 19: 18- 19.
