Topic: What does God Say?
Text: 2 Samuel 5:18-23; 7:1-14
Introduction
There is a crucial question that we need to ask ourselves every time in 2017. The question employs four small but potent words: What does God Say?
This should form part of our checklists in everything we do. The life of David is our case study.
David and the Philistines 2 Samuel 5:18-25
David discovered the importance of this question in two quite different ways.
In 2 Samuel 5, David twice hears the Philistines have gathered to attack him. Both times he inquires of the Lord before he acts.
1. David inquired and God says go 2 Samuel 5:19
2. David inquired and God says do not go straight up 2 Samuel 5:23
Both times he gets divine instructions, follows them, and succeeds.
Inquire from God
Hear from God
Obey God's instructions
David, Nathan and plan to build Temple for God 2 Samuel 7:1-16
In consulting Nathan, David sought God's will. Nathan speaks for God before receiving divine instructions. God corrects him that night and was forced to return to David and amend what he has spoken.
David desire to build for the Lord was commendable, but his gift and mission were to fight the Lord's battles until Israel was securely at rest in the promised land.
The plan of God for David was to build a house (Royal Dynasty) 2 Samuel 7: 1-16.
Benefits of seeking God's face
1. He will guide you
2. He reveals His plan and purpose Jeremiah 29:11
3. Will not lead you astray. Proverbs 30:5
4. God will build for you. David was not to build a house (temple), rather, God will build David a house ( royal dynasty) 2 Samuel 7:11
5. Seek Him and you will find Him
6. He will strengthen you, Isaiah 41:10; 40:31
Conclusion
Never fail to seek the face of God for everything you want to do in 2017. He will never lead you astray.
