THEME: STARTOUT GOD’S WAY
TEXT: PROV.3:3-6; ISA.41:10-13;
TOPIC: RELATIONSHIP IN SERVICE.
TEXT: JOSHUA_1:10-17
1:10
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
1:11
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals;
for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the
land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.
1:12
And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh,
spake Joshua, saying,
1:13
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying,
The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
1:14 Your wives, your little ones, and your
cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but
ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and help
them;
1:15
Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they
also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall
return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD's
servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
1:16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All
that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will
go.
1:17
According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto
thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
Introduction
Ø God
intends His people to stand united in accordance with the prevailing Unity of
the Godhead.
Ø Jesus
labored to build a Church that is united.
Ø God
prospers His people to varying levels at different times.
Those
that the Lord has given relative rest should encourage others striving for the
same.
God’s Plan Joshua 1:10-17
Ø Right from Creation, God made man to
have a helper and to work together.
Gen.
2:18;
2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I
will make him an help meet for him.
Ø Eccl. 4:9-12
4:9
Two are better than one; because they
have a good reward for their labour.
4:10
For if they fall, the one will lift up
his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not
another to help him up.
4:11
Again, if two lie together, then they
have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
4:12
And if one prevail against him, two
shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ø God declared His intention to have His
people stand in unity and remain in one accord.
Ezekiel 37:22, John 10:16
Ø Jesus prayed for unity among His
disciples just as the Unity that abides in the Godhead. John 17:22-23
17:22
And the glory which thou gavest me I have
given them; that they may be one,
even as we are one:
17:23
I in them, and thou in me, that they may
be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and
hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
Christ’s Labored for a United Church
Ø Jesus Christ kept His
disciples together and taught them to work together.
John 17:12
17:12 While
I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest
me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the
scripture might be fulfilled.
Ø Jesus Christ labored
to build a Church that is in one accord and taught His disciples to do the
same. Luke 10:16
10:16
He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he
that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
God Blesses His People Variously
Ø
The time, place and manner of blessing
is determined by God. Joshua_1:12-13
1:12 And
to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake
Joshua, saying,
1:13 Remember
the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD
your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
Ø
There is no place for envy in the
household of faith.
Ø
Those that are blessed must labor to
see others blessed also through prayer, sharing and encouragement. Galatians_6:2
6:2
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Joshua_1:14-15
CONCLUSION
Believers are members of the same body united in
Christ. As a result of the common bond that we share, it is imperative that we
take interest in one another and bare each other’s burden.
Those that the Lord has given relative rest should
encourage others striving for the same.
They must stand in prayers, support and
encouragement with others who are still struggling until they also come to
experience the freedom, and prosperity that God intends for them.
